Cedric Dustin Watched the Gasholder Work – from the Inside

Former Concord Gas Company president Cedric Dustin shares his first-hand experience of how the internal Gasholder mechanisms worked, including the dangers.

Cedric Dustin worked inside the Concord, NH Gasholder, as well as on the grounds of the Gasworks, during his years as president of Concord Gas Company. In this video, he describes his early days with the company when Concord's historic Gasholder was a functioning part of the gas delivery system. He shares his memories of what it was like to work inside the cavernous round building, explaining how the mechanisms functioned and some of the dangers involved.

Dustin was a long-time supporter of the N.H. Preservation Alliance and staunch advocate for saving the Gasholder. He passed away in 2022. We remember him in Mourning the Loss of Cedric Dustin.

This 6-minute video is presented by the Concord Historical Society. The interview was conducted by Jim Milliken and John Gfroerer, photos by Gary Samson for the 1982 HAER documentation project, and video production by John Gfroerer.
